Organic Soil

Organic gardening is much the same as any other form except it’s done without the use of dangerous chemicals such as pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and chemical fertilisers.

There is still soil to be dug and turned, fed and enriched, worked and improved. It all has to be done naturally, which is common sense really. Your soil is the medium that will house and nurture your plants, food crops, trees, herbs and shrubs. The common sense part of organic gardening (and farming, for that matter) is ensuring that your soil is as healthy as it can be.

Healthy soil has a good crumb structure, the right balance of acid and alkalai, plenty of natural organic material distributed within it, a healthy supply of good soil-loving bacteria, worms to aerate it and enough grit for drainage.

Every year, the addition of manure, or better, well rotted compost dug into the soil will work wonders in preserving the soil’s balance, adding natural, beneficial nutrients at the same time.

Plants or crops grown on organic soil are healthier and more disease resistant than those grown on artificially fertilised and chemically treated soil. Crops grown on healthy, organic soil contain higher levels of nutrients, vitamins and minerals than their intensively farmed counterparts.

But most importantly, food crops grown in organic soil are free of harmful chemicals.

Don’t you owe it to your children to give them a healthy start in life and feed them only on organically grown food?

Enhance Your Detox Diet with Organic Fruits And Vegetables

A detoxification diet should be adopted on a regular basis to help clean and purge the body of toxins that build up through unhealthy eating habits. When your body becomes overloaded with toxic substances, you are more likely to suffer the chronic symptoms associated with bad diet. These can include bad breath, bloating, gas, eczema, asthma, migraines, arthritis and so many more too many to list here.

One of the best ways of accomplishing this is through the consumption of organic fruits and vegetables. A whole body cleansing regime is put into action when you switch your diet to natural and organic food in place of regular fruit and vegetables.

Organic fruits and vegetables are of course produced by wholly natural methods. They are grown by farmers without the use of dangerous pesticides, herbicides, or unnatural chemical fertilisers. This has to be good for the human body and its natural functioning, by reducing our intake of these poisons that intensively farmed produce are laden with.

More and more people are becoming increasingly aware that fruits and vegetables in regular commercial production are sprayed with a lethal cocktail of over 100 pesticides, herbicides, fungicides etc. Added to this, toxic metals such as lead, cadmium, aluminium and mercury enter the soil through these pollution channels and are also absorbed by the plants. Even after the harvest, non-organic fruits are treated with further chemicals to hasten the ripening process. Preservatives are also be added to prolong their shelf life and increase the profits of the supermarket chains. All in all, non-organic produce which might have the appearance of being healthy can contain more chemicals than most people realise.

Because of this, people are turning to organically produced crops in an attempt to remove these poisons from their diets.

There is growing evidence to prove that organically produced fruits and vegetables are more nutritious and contain higher levels of vitamins and minerals than conventionally grown food. It has been reported that organically grown apples, pears, potatoes and wheat displayed higher nutrient content than their conventionally farmed counterparts by a factor of 90%. Further studies showed that antioxidants contained in certain organic produce was as much as 600% higher than conventionally grown produce.

For your organic detox diet, there are several fruits and vegetables to choose from. Apples are a great example of one of the best organic fruits for your detox diet you can eat. They contain plenty of fibre, which slows the body’s absorption rate of the naturally occurring sugars in the apple when you eat it whole. By eating organically grown apples, you won’t get the sudden surge in blood sugar that comes after eating junk like cakes and biscuits.

The many different detox diet programs prescribe alternate ways of eating organic fruits and vegetables. Some proclaim that it is better to eat them whole, some by juicing and others, a combination. Whichever program you choose, it is recommended that you use organic fruits and vegetables instead of regular produce. Also you should ensure that your daily intake of pure, fresh water is increased significantly to aid the cleansing of the colon.

So if you want to feel better and really notice that improvement in your general health and well-being, consider using only organically grown produce with its superior nutritional content for detoxification. That way, you will derive the maximum benefits from your detox diet.

Added to that positive step in the right direction, this blog gives you the chance to interact with the site by posting comments making it a total two way medium!

So if there’s anything you’d like to see added to this site, then within reason, I’ll try to add it. If there’s anything you don’t like about it, please tell me and I’ll listen and if your comment is constructive and I agree that it will benefit the readers of this site, then I will implement change.

That’s the whole beauty of a blog as a site homepage. Reader interaction and two way communication between yourselves and the site administrator (well, at the moment, it’s just me!!! But as it grows, who knows, there may well be more people involved in keeping the momentum up).

Compost - Organic Magic!

Compost. The very thought of it often generates a picture of a steaming, smelly heap of slimy rotting manure in a disused corner of a garden by those ignorant of it’s true composition.

Nothing could be further than the truth! A properly constructed and well managed compost heap is certainly not smelly or slimy and although it may produce a little steam from time to time due to natures own rotting down process, it is a clean and disease-free pile of goodness.

Composting garden and kitchen waste into a clean, dry odour-free medium is natures way of providing all the nutrients and structural requisites that your organic garden soil requires.

So how does someone make compost?
